The subject matter of my research activity concerns issues related to the use of low-emission technology of solid fuels combustion (coal, biomass, biofuels, waste fuels) and ways to improve the efficiency of reducing gaseous pollutant emissions. For many years I have been involved in the development of diagnostic systems to identify corrosion and slagging hazards caused by the use of low-emission combustion technics in steam boilers and co-firing of various biomass types in them.

I’m a member of the Polish Institute of Combustion (PIS), Combustion Section of the Committee of Thermodynamics and Combustion of the Polish Academy of Sciences. I am the head of the Combustion and Explosion Laboratory at Wrocław University Science and Technology. The total of my achievements consists of 120 works - 41 scientific papers, monography and books, 47 reports, 6 patents.

I have participated in many research projects (national and international) financed by the Polish Committee for Scientific Research (KBN), National Science Centre (NCN), Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, EIT Knowledge & Innovation Community KIC InnoEnergy, The National Centre for Research and Development, EDF Polska  and European Commission through Research Fund for Coal and Steel.

Selected projects or activities:

  1. Technology of plasma gasification of biomass and waste for the production of liquid fuels” - participation in the task of assessing gaseous products generated in the process of plasma gasification of biomass and organic waste.
  2. "Modern technologies of energy use of biomass and biodegradable waste / BiOB / - conversion to energy gaseous fuels". I developed, among others, methodology for testing the speed of slagging in pulverized boilers and in the laboratory stand using the collecting probes.
  3. Ecoalboiler - "Reduction of low-emission corrosion in pulverized boilers" and "Boiler tests to increase their efficiency, reduce environmental impact and reduce operating costs" - The projects were implemented as part of the cooperation of the Consortium of Polish Universities with EDF Polska.
  4. Advanced Near Zero Emission Coal Fired Power Plant” (Acronym ACoPP) - EIT Knowledge & Innovation Community KIC InnoEnergy in which I carried out the task titled: Analysis of the mechanism and rate of deposit formation and evaluation of the deposit morphology from the oxy-combustion of coal dust for selected parameters of the process.
  5. Corrosion and Emission Reduction of Utility Boilers through Intelligent Systems - Cerubis”. A research project co-financed by European Commission through Research Fund for Coal and Steel. My role in the project among others was to investigate of high-temperature corrosion phenomena in the real scale conditions under low emission demands for hard and lignite coal combustion, develop and test the on-line corrosion probes
